May Newsletter & Supanova Gold Coast Wrap-Up

Brad Fowler - Saturday, May 12, 2012

Hey Guys,

Welcome to the May newsletter, and also a very big welcome to our new subscribers!

Wow, what a great weekend at the first ever Gold Coast Supanova! With over 15,000 people through the doors just on the Saturday alone, I'm sure this one will be the first of many. Thanks to all of you who got up and helped us rock the place. It's always as much fun for us as we hope it is for you guys and it's great to see how much enjoyment people get when they're up on stage rocking out. Of course it's a no-brainer that the largest smiles are always from those people who get to play on the fantastic Alchemy Ecoustics drums. It's not often you get to play such a well made custom drum kit and we're so proud that Joe and the guys at Alchemy have come along for the ride with us. Don't forget to go and check out their page here.

Before we get onto the announcement of the winners for the weekend, we need to say a big thank you to our sponsors. As we mentioned above, mad props to Alchemy Ecoustics for providing that kit for you guys to wail on. Always a huge thank you to the guys atHarmonix Music Systems, the makers of Rock Band, for continually supporting us as we bring their revolutionary game to the stage for your enjoyment and providing software and other great swag. And finally, thanks to our new partners-in-rock, NetComm Wireless, who provided the free wireless hotspot at the Rock Band stage and some fantastic gear to give to the winners. We love you guys!

The follower's prize winners.

We gave away heaps of cool Rock Band stuff over the weekend (although we had to stop giving out the stickers, because apparently people "stick them to things"... oh, ya think?!?) But our first 2 major prizes were exclusive packs for people who follow us onFacebook and Twitter to say thank you for their loyalty. If you don't already do so, go ahead and click on those links to like and follow us, because we'll be doing the same thing at the next gig as well. All you need to do is write "Facebook follower" or "Twitter follower" on your song request form when you sign up at the stage to go into the draw (we'll be checking though, so no faking it!)

Congratulations to the two winners of our follower's prize packs, Danielle Weber & Hayden Pinsker!! Danielle and Hayden each bagged themselves a copy of The Beatles: Rock Band, a very cool limited edition Rock Band t-shirt and a superb NetComm WiFi modem set up. Woot!!

Special mentions.

We had a lot of great performances over the weekend, with some real standouts. So first of all some special mentions. Hats off to: Towelie and his band for making us laugh; to the Ghostbusters crew for drawing the biggest crowd of the weekend (literally hundreds of people around the stage, they had a bigger crowd than the Stargate actors did when they came up!); to the 'Jesus' cosplayer for a great rendition of 'Livin on a Prayer'; to 'The Team Jake Experience' for a hugely entertaining version of 'Poker Face'; and finally, to 'The Raging Boners' (no I didn't make that up) for channeling Eddie Vedder.

However, as they say, "There Can Be Only One!"

We picked our winning band for a couple of reasons. These guys are certainly repeat offenders, familiar faces hanging out at the Rock Stars stage at every Supanova we've been to. But not only that, they tried a new direction this year which kind of caught people off guard, one of the band pulled out a very advanced maneuver to snag the victory. We call it the 'Phil Collins'...

Ladies & Gents, we present to you to the winning band of the Supanova Gold Coast weekend, 'Elements Of Design' for their rocking performance of Judas Priest's "You've Got Another Thing Comin"!

Check out drummer Seph doing the 'Phil Collins', playing the Alchemy Ecoustics kit and singing at the same time. It's the first time we've seen it done on the Rock Stars stage. Meanwhile guitarist Tom rocks the solo and gives the crowd a show!

Huge congrats go out to the band for their win! Each band member will receive a copy of the Rock Band 2 game (which isn't available in Australia), a Rock Band bandana & sweat band, an iron-on patch for the new Harmonix game "Rock Band Blitz', DLC for a Beatles shirt for your avatar and a free song in The Beatles: Rock Band, instrument stickers and some very rare Rock Band logo & art stickers. Plus... The band receives an awesome 3G wireless modem from NetComm! Boys, you may commence fighting among yourselves for who gets that!

Please get in contact with us either on Facebook or via email so we can get your prizes out to you. Well done guys!!

Until next time guys, KEEP ROCKIN!

Supanova, AusCon... and more Supanova!

Brad Fowler - Saturday, October 08, 2011

Hey Kids,

Long time eh?

For those of you who attended the April Supanova in Brisbane, we finally have a long awaited announcement - the winners of the best performance!

There have been some mega delays on this due to a couple of RL issues, most notably the complete disappearance of a whole shipment of goodies from Harmonix over in the US. It left Boston, but somewhere after that it has vanished. We were holding off on an announcement as we followed this up in the vain hope that the goodies were going to turn up, but this has obviously not happened and it's not really fair to anyone to hold off any longer.

Anyway... extremely belated congratulations go to Team WhoopAss for their 2 spectacular performances!!!

"Kickstart My Heart" by Motley Crue is one of our favourite songs and despite the fact that it was a great performance anyway, it never hurts to cater to the judges tastes! We're sorry we have nothing to give you but the fame, glory and our eternal rock respect guys. If the missing shipment does ever turn up you'll be the first to know. Well done!

Special mention also goes to the Capt Jack Sparrow's (Jr & Sr) and Miracle Dave, who has to get the new record for most songs played on drums over the weekend!

Folks who follow our Facebook page (which should be everyone!) would know that last weekend the Rock Stars stage was in full effect at AusCon, blasting ears and melting faces. Everyone had a great time and even though the event is only in its infancy, it has great potential and we're proud to be associated with it. For anyone who doesn't follow us on Facebook, you really should as it's where the majority of our updates and new gigs are advertised. It's here, so click the linky, go and 'like' it now, we'll wait.. gogogogo!!!

November 4th - 6th see round 2 of the Supanova Expo in Brisbane. We're already in negotiations with the Supanova guys, so expect to see the Rock Stars stage rocking the place and keeping everyone entertained over the weekend. We look forward to seeing you all there!

Finally, we'd like to make a formal welcome to our new partners in crime err.. rock.. Alchemy E-Coustics. Joe and the guys at AE are the makers of that fine blue electronic kit that you've all been playing on for the past few months. It really is a match made in heaven and we're so proud to be able to partner with them and help spread awareness of their fine product. If you're looking for a new set of drums for your home Rock Band setup, want a great electronic kit to play on, or even if you have decided you like this drums thing and want to start learning, you really can't go past these kits. If you'd like to learn more, contact us on sales@rockstarsentertainment.com and we can put you in touch with them.

Well, that's about all for now. We look forward to catching up with you all in November at Supanova!

Til then, keep rockin!

Where does he get those wonderful toys.....

Brad Fowler - Wednesday, August 11, 2010
Those of you who've already come to a gig and jammed out with us will have seen some of the uber-cool gear we let you play with - the full Ion drumkit with a proper kick pedal, a wireless Fender P-Bass replica and George Harrison's very own Gretsch Pro Duo guitar.

A lot of people have been asking where we get all that wonderful gear and how they can nab it for themselves. Well, I'm very happy to be able to point you all in the right direction..

Why not head over to our friends at New England Music Supply and check out their wares. Their service is top notch and their prices are great (they also have a price match guarantee!) Best of all? They ship to Australlia! Now you have access to all the fun stuff that we usually miss out on over here.

So go for it, hit up www.newenglandmusicsupply.com for all your Rock Band goodies and make sure you tell them that Rock Stars sent you!
